IR filters have one thing in common: they let the infrared spectrum through, while they block some or all of the visible spectrum. The amount of visible light makes the difference in the characteristics of photographic result. Which filter is the best?

- 830/900/950nm (black and white, high contrast, no visible light)
- 720/715/695nm (deep reds are passed, leaving some room for fake-colors in the postprocessing)
- 665nm (reds and deeps oranges are passed, crazy saturation and tones can be achieved easily, but sharpness starts to suffer)
- 550-590nm (yellows, even greens are passed, used mostly in fashion photography, as skin tones are more or less intact)
- other (please specify and discuss!)
- what? there are different IR filters available?

You can use red + blue + yellow or green filters to get IR.
You can place these filters over a spot light to make an IR spot light so the IR camera can see at night without the disturbing glow of white.
